Sevan peninsula

Lake Sevan is the largest lake in the Caucasus. Its area is 1240 km². That is why Sevan used to be called the “Geghama Sea”. This miracle of nature is located at an altitude of 1930 m in a huge mountain bowl, which is surrounded by picturesque slopes overgrown with forrests, stone cliffs, steppes, alpine meadows and pebble beaches. And floating clouds seem to cling to the snowy peaks of the mountains. The area around Lake Sevan is a National Wildlife Refuge. On the shores of Sevan is always a very comfortable temperature and clean air. On the Sevan Peninsula, we visit to visit a beautiful architectural monument - Sevanavank Monastery, founded in 874 by Princess Syunik and Princess Mariam Bagratuni. It is located on a peninsula. Two churches picturesquely adorn the small hills of the peninsula - the large church of the Holy Apostles and the small church of St. Hovhannes Mkrtich (John the Baptist). The hills offer wonderful views of the lake! Also in Sevan there are excellent fish restaurants with the freshest fish and crayfish right from the lake.
