Daimon (Great Gate) is all the way west from Koyasan Station where you get off the cable car, but in the days when people climbed Koyasan on foot, people entered Koyasan from this gate. Daimon is the entrance to Koyasan and a spiritual barrier against evil spirits.

If you have time, please take a bus to Daimon and visit there. You will be overwhelmed by the majestic gate.

Opposite the gate is Choishimichi, a path that people used to walk up.

Choishimichi

Hikers still climb this trail. The Daimon gate that you see when you climb the last steep slope looks really divine.

 Choishi (stone towers)

From Jison-in Temple, where the mother of Kobo Daishi lived, to the top of Koyasan, 180 stone towers stand every 109 meters. They represent the 180 deities of the womb realm.

It's fun to walk down the gentle slope from Daimon to Danjo Garan Complex (about 450m) while enjoying the townscape.
